The
in-service teacher training courses I have held at the Institut für Lehrerfortbildung / Mülheim an der Ruhr focussed on ways of
improving the teaching of English and French prose composition to German
sixth-formers by means of procedural facilitation and computer-assisted
instruction. I also presented some of the material to be published in Hannay/Gallagher/Mackenzie/Siepmann
(forthcoming).
During those courses I
found that many teachers had little practice in writing skills and were
largely uninformed about differences between German and English prose
styles. With this in view John D. Gallagher and I decided to conduct an
English writing workshop aimed at addressing some of the existing
deficiencies. The course was first held in February 2002 and will be
repeated in March 2003. (cf. the announcement in the relevant Kursheft
of the Institut für Lehrerfortbildung.)
